Withdrawing from the race

To my family, friends and supporters:

I have made the decision to withdraw my name in the primary for the 52nd
State Senate District. I want to thank all of the great people supporting me
from the bottom of my heart. Many, many people have been helpful and kind.

This decision is what’s best for me and my family at this time.

I wish all of you well.

Alan

Friends,
I was honored to have my family, friends, and former basketball players by my side as I announced my candidacy for Illinois State Senate in the 52nd district. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful summer day to tour Rantoul, Danville, and Champaign. I’m looking forward to travelling to every corner of this great district to hear what’s on the minds of its citizens and to talk about how we can bring jobs back to east central Illinois.
I hope that you will take a moment to read my announcement speech. It clearly outlines who I am, why I’m a great fit for the district, and what I plan to accomplish as your senator. I’m also adding photos from my trip around the district to my new Facebook page. I hope you “like” it!
Speech:

During my years as a businessman and Champaign County Board member, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Champaign and Vermilion Counties. And recently I’ve had to opportunity to talk with hundreds of Champaign and Vermilion county citizens who want a better government for Illinois. Citizens who want to see a change in the leadership that has taken Illinois down a path to unpaid bills, bloated government, possible bankruptcy, and prohibitive regulations and taxes that has made Illinois the worst state in the union in terms of job creation.
But more importantly, Springfield has led us down a path that’s left ready and skilled workers in Vermillion county with an unemployment rate that’s almost 1% higher than the national average with few opportunities for good paying jobs, down a path to a 67% tax increase that has families making tough sacrifices so they can stretch their dollars to cover a week’s worth of gas and groceries, and down a path where citizens no longer believe in the career politicians who represent them in Springfield. Springfield isn’t working.

Alan Nudo Announces Candidacy for 52nd Senate District

Business and Community leader launches a campaign focused on bringing jobs to Champaign and Vermilion Counties

August 10, 2011—-Champaign, Illinois—-Republican County Board member Alan Nudo announced that he is running for a seat in the Illinois State Senate in the 52nd district. Nudo announced his candidacy with family and supporters by his side in three communities within the district: Rantoul, Danville, and Champaign.

Nudo, a former Parkland College Men’s Basketball coach and current president of Robeson’s Inc., a real estate development corporation that has created hundreds of jobs in east central Illinois, told supporters that his campaign will focus on bringing in new jobs for the citizens of the district through the unwinding of prohibitive regulations and job-killing taxes that has made Illinois the worst state in the union in terms of job creation.

“Springfield has led us down a path that’s left skilled workers in Vermillion County with an unemployment rate that’s almost 1% higher than the national average with few opportunities for good paying jobs; down a path to a 67% tax increase that has families making tough sacrifices so they can stretch their dollars to cover a week’s worth of gas and groceries; and down a path where citizens no longer believe in the career politicians who represent them in Springfield. Springfield isn’t working”, said Nudo in his announcement.

Since joining the Champaign County Board in 2007 Nudo has been successful in working across party lines to pass significant reforms in county government. Nudo authored and successfully passed a resolution to create a Champaign County Nursing Home Advisory Board and hire a professional management company to run the operation. Within three years the nursing home went from a $2.8 million deficit to turning a profit. Separately, Nudo initiated a referendum to reduce the size of the county board from 27 to 22. A measure that voters overwhelmingly supported by 75% of the vote in the 2010 elections. And most recently he co-authored and sponsored of the first voter redistricting map to be drawn by citizens in the state of Illinois.

In his announcement Nudo went on to say, “I’m a citizen who knows this state and its citizens deserve better. I’m a citizen who has spent my professional and public life helping people and communities through creating private sector jobs and mentoring young people as a basketball coach. I’m a citizen who believes that applying these same principles to government will restore public trust, open doors to new business, and create new employment opportunities for the citizens of this State.”

Nudo has a long history of community involvement. He currently represents citizens in Champaign County Board district three and is the County Board Republican caucus leader. He has served 20 years as University of Illinois Foundation member, on the Homestead Corporation Board of Directors, is a former member of the Champaign County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and is a co-founder of the Taste of Champaign-Urbana benefit fundraiser.

Alan and his wife Kassandra, reside in Champaign and have three adult children and six grandchildren.
